In the Spotlight: Trimpin, Stiefel & More

Octave 9 >

Former Seattle Symphony Composer in Residence and a master sound sculpture, composer and MacArthur “Genius,” Trimpin is most known for creating sound installations at intersection of music and visual art. His diverse influences come together in his work Solo Flute, Eight Pottery Wheels and Assorted Vinyls. Andrew Stiefel’s Five Ways to Listen to a Mockingbird transforms the mockingbird's stolen song into a series of meditations on our changing cities and landscapes. To conclude the evening, you’ll experience two dynamic percussion works performed by Seattle Symphony guests, the arx duo.

Featuring Seattle Symphony musicians and guests

Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1

Masterworks Series >

“When Dausgaard conducts,” says The Seattle Times, “you can almost see the electric charge between him and the players, the eye contact and the mutual awareness of every gesture.” The Seattle Symphony’s Music Director Designate brings two imaginative works composed in his native Denmark. The prelude to Langgaard’s subversive opera Antichrist stokes the wicked humor of the Jazz age, while Nielsen’s Second Symphony paints revealing portraits of human temperaments. Pianist Garrick Ohlsson brings out every nuance of a transformative score steeped in young Brahms’ devotion to Beethoven and his affection for Clara Schumann.
