Sibelius Symphony No. 2

With its gorgeous melodies and sweeping landscapes, Sibelius’ Second Symphony inhabits a distinctly Finnish musical world filled with stark beauty and a haunting nationalistic atmosphere. Two portraits of the sea open the concert, beginning in the sparkling Mediterranean seas of Sibelius’ The Oceanides and traveling north to the moody waters found in Britten’s scenes of a coastal village.
