Dr. Anna Edwards holds many positions as an artist and teacher in the Seattle area. Over the past sixteen years, she has built the Roosevelt High School symphony orchestra into a nationally recognized ensemble that has won 1st place in such festivals as the National Orchestra Cup, the American String Teachers Association, and Gresham Music Festival. Anna is the founder and music director of the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra (SCO), which was originally formed to feature advanced high school and college musicians playing Side-by-Side with local professionals. The recipient of numerous awards, Anna was the 1st place conducting winner in the 2014 American Prize for her work with the SCO, and the SCO itself was awarded 2nd place in the 2014 American Prize for the community orchestra division. Anna is also the music director for the Saratoga Orchestra, which has recently been commended for its varied and adventurous programming.
Over the course of her 23 years in Seattle, Anna has worked with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra program (SYSO), conducting the Symphonette Orchestra, Classical Symphony, and the Festival String Orchestra for the Marrowstone-in-the-City summer music program. She has also served as clinician and guest conductor in festivals across the country. This October, Anna will guest conduct for the Purdue University Symphony.
As a freelance violinist and violist, Edwards has performed in the Seattle Metro area with such groups as the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Northwest Sinfonietta, Auburn Symphony, and various chamber ensembles. Anna studied conducting at the prestigious Pierre Monteux School for Conductors and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and received her Doctorate of Musical Arts in conducting at the University of Washington.
